Female and Fearless (F&F) was back in-person this year! Held annually, the F&F programme aims to build confidence, leadership and digital skills in female students. This programme was held over two weekends in November 2022. The second workshop, focusing on confidence, was conducted in collaboration with Goldman Sachs on 12 November 2022. F&F: Digital was jointly organised with Goldman Sachs’ Women in Engineering team for the fourth time on 5 November 2022. 58 female students from Edgefield Secondary School, Woodgrove Secondary School and Yuan Ching Secondary School were hosted by Goldman Sachs in their Singapore office.
Aihua Liang, Managing Director at Goldman Sachs, opened the session by sharing that there are three universal core competencies that make one more adaptable - having a clear, analytical mind, problem-solving skills, and the ability to implement projects. She explained that studying STEM subjects was one of the ways in which they could hone these skills.
The students’ interests were piqued as the session started with a trivia on the history and logic behind programming. They were then introduced to the basics of Python programming before they learned how to program a smart lighting system using Python on a Raspberry Pi.
Our sincere thanks to Goldman Sachs’ Women in Engineering and YWLC volunteers for teaching and inspiring these young students. We can’t wait to see what they accomplish in the future!
YWLC’s Social Impact team works with secondary schools to identify female students who would best benefit from this workshop. If you would like to refer a school to us for this programme, please email impact@ywlc.org.sg.
